I do love this spice grinder but, like the nutcracker I just left a review for, it is very difficult for children to grind. It is also somewhat awkard, because a child has to muster a lot of strenth to grind, and still keep the grinder steady, and I found that even 5 year olds were getting frustrated.
The idea was to use this in the Practical Life section and then to grind spices in our cooking endeavors. The device was very difficult to use and the children could not use it on their own. Even the older children had trouble with it. So it turned out that is was not used often like we envisioned it would be. However, they all loved the fresh aroma of the ground spices.

Dear Kathy, We are so sorry that this item is not getting used as much as you expected. I assume the difficultly you mention is in opening/closing the mechanism to fill the chamber. This product was designed to be filled by an adult. The children then just turn the crank to grind the fresh spices. The top and the base twist and lock together tightly so that the item being ground does not escape, and so that the internal mechanism is not exposed. Once filled, our child reviewers loved turning the crank and found it easy to grind fresh spices (the favorite was nutmeg).
